Giving Blood is giving the gift of life...
One of the best parts of being a member of Vermilion Lions Club is the opportunity not only to serve, but to be informed. At the February 15th meeting of the club it was no different as our guest speaker Sandara Prochaska from American Red Cross told the club of the critical need for blood in the community.
Sandra spoke on the various ways to donate blood and the opportunity for the Vermilion Lions Club to sponsor local blood drives at Ritter public Library.
The Vermilion Lions will start with the Blood Drive for April 18th, so drink plenty of fluids and join us this spring in giving the greatest gift of all, life.
We thank Sandra and the American Red Cross for taking the time to come talk with us and for all the work they do to better our community.

Lions Give Back...Football and Fries Donation
The Vermilion Lion Club presented the Vermilion Athletic Boosters Club a check for $1,200 at halftime of the Vermilion Sailors Boys Varsity Basketball game last night.
On hand to present the check were Steve Holovacs, Gerry Masinova, and "Leo" the Lion.
The amount donated was raised through the sale of Lions Club French Fries at their popular "Friday, Football and Fries" events during Vermilion Sailor home games. Proceeds from the sale of fries were split between the Athletic boosters, the Band boosters and the Lions Club. With the Lions Club portion going toward meeting various needs in the community.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the booster club for allowing us to sell fries at the games. We hope this partnership continues for the betterment of all in the future.

We Can Do It !
Dear Lions
As we begin 2011 we are also beginning the second half of our year together as Lion leaders. During the first half of my presidency it has been my privilege to travel the globe and see first-hand the light that Lions bring to some of the most challenging places in our world. Lions are making a difference in the lives of millions of people each year and I have never been more proud to be a Lion!
I am especially proud that this year the Global Service Action Campaigns have focused our light on service with a laser-like intensity. Each of the first three campaigns has been an outstanding success.
Traveling as your president I have visited some of our world's most beautiful places, as well as some of the most troubled. It has given me a renewed appreciation for the precious and fragile resources we have on our planet Earth. This is why I hope I can count on you to make the fourth and final Global Service Action Campaign -- Protecting our Environment -- an equal success. This last campaign may be the most important because it affects all of us no matter where we live.
Lions know that we cannot fulfill the bumper-sticker mandate to "Save the Planet," but we can do what Lions always do: make a difference. We can shine a light on the environmental challenges we see. We can educate others on solutions, and serve as an example for others to follow in solving these challenges related to our environment. If we are to ensure that our children and grandchildren inherit a healthy, sustainable environment, we must raise awareness and demonstrate on a local scale what must be done on a global scale.
Lions Protecting our Environment Global Service Action Campaign is scheduled for April 2011 in conjunction with the international observance of Earth Day. I urge all Lions clubs to plan an event and take part in this global effort. Be sure to record your efforts on the ServiceActivity Report.
Best wishes,
Sid L. Scruggs III
International President

Project "We Will"... Has Lions Seeing Purple!
The February 1st meeting of Vermilion Lions Club had a very special guest speaker, new Vermilion High Coach and Athletic Director Ben Ohlemacher stopped in told the club about the exciting new plans for Vermilion Athletics.
From the much talked about Purple Field, to new track, field house and improvements to lockers and weight training facilities, excellence was outlined for future Sailor interscholastic athletic activities. Also discussed were high standards for conduct and academic standards for Vermilion's student athletes.
Not to mention a forecasted return to Vermilion's glory days on the gridiron.
If you are interested in helping others and hearing interesting speakers like Mr. Ohlemacher, contact us for membership information. A portion from the sale of Vermilion Lions Club French fries during football games, band festivals and other school activities go toward band and athletic booster clubs.
Helping student programs in our community.

Lions International Donates $6.1 Million to Provide Hope, Homes in Haiti..
When a major earthquake hit Haiti last January, many families lost everything. Our members were among the first to offer help, including food, water and shelter.
A year later, we’re still working to provide hope – and homes – in Haiti.
Six hundred families are moving from Lions-provided tents into new provisional homes, thanks to Lions around the world who donated US $6.1 million to the LCIF Haiti Earthquake Fund.
This photo shows one of the new homes being built by LCIF and HELP, a German NGO.
